Biodiversity and species

Macedonia is among the most species-rich countries in Europe. Through this programme, MES studies and protects rare and threatened species — from the Balkan lynx and birds of prey to plants, insects and freshwater life — and works to safeguard the habitats they depend on.

The programme is built on years of fieldwork and long-term monitoring, carried out with partners at home and abroad. The data it produces underpins red lists, national strategies and practical conservation measures.
