Prof. Dr Ljupčo Melovski
Scientist, professor and long-standing president of MES
Prof. Ljupčo Melovski was a scientist, a university professor and a devoted lover of the mountains — a man with a singular passion for nature conservation, a mentor to many young ecologists and an exceptional contributor to the development of ecological science in Macedonia.
He also served for many years as president of the Macedonian Ecological Society, and his name lives on today in the Young Ecologists Support Programme.
Beginnings
The mountains were Prof. Melovski's first and lasting love. Kitka, one of the first mountains he ever climbed, stayed with him for the whole of his journey — and it is where that journey came to an end.
Out of that early bond with the natural world grew the singular passion for protecting it that went on to shape his entire professional life.
