Prof. Dr Ljupčo Melovski
Scientist, professor and long-standing president of MES
Prof. Ljupčo Melovski was a scientist, a university professor and a devoted lover of the mountains — a man with a singular passion for nature conservation, a mentor to many young ecologists and an exceptional contributor to the development of ecological science in Macedonia.
He also served for many years as president of the Macedonian Ecological Society, and his name lives on today in the Young Ecologists Support Programme.
Legacy
In his memory, every year MES and the mountaineering club “Ljuboten” of Tetovo organise the memorial march “To Kitka in memory of Ljupčo Melovski” — an ascent of Mount Kitka, one of the first mountains he ever climbed and the mountain where his life's journey came to an end.
His name also lives on in MES's Young Ecologists Support Programme, which he initiated in 2009.
